Old World Wines and an Easy Appetizer

by Rachel Voorhees

It’s time for the second installment of fabulous holiday entertaining wines and an easy appetizer! This time, we are keeping it in the Old World with wines from Italy, and the Alsace and Rhone regions in France. Be brave and serve something different this holiday season!

Just like my New World party wine picks, these too are easy drinking, palate pleasing and quite affordable. Plus I’ve created another super simple and tasty appetizer you can whip together with ingredients from BevMo!

La Marca Prosecco

La Marca Prosecco is a perfect wine that will match with all sorts of holiday party appetizers, from sweet to savory. Prosecco showcases a lot of fruit flavors backed by crisp acidity and a lip-smacking finish. The ripe fruit along with crisp bubbles makes it an all-around palate-pleaser that everyone will love sipping on.

Domaines Schlumberger Pinot Blanc

The 2009 Domaines Schlumberger Princes Abbes Pinot Blanc is fruity, smooth and also pairs well with a variety of holiday appetizers. This Pinot Blanc is not only fruity and floral but also has nice mineral notes, creating a balanced wine that is supple and easy to drink.

Delas St. Esprit Cotes-du-Rhone

The 2010 Delas St. Esprit Cotes-du-Rhone is a medium bodied red wine that pairs with a variety of foods, making it a fabulous party wine. It’s smooth, supple and earthy with spice, dense dark fruit and a touch of floral notes. The finish has a cracked pepper element, making it an especially great red wine to pair with the purple haze raincoast crisp appetizer.

Purple Haze Raincoast Crisps

This is a delicious appetizer filled with tons of earthy and nutty flavors. All of the above wines pair nicely with those flavors as well as the creaminess of the purple haze goat cheese. Enjoy!
